Jakarta

A mixing pot of cultures, Jakarta is to Indonesia like Toronto is to Canada. The motto of Indonesia is Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, meaning “Unity In Diversity”, and Jakarta is the epitome of this. Walking around the city, you can see aspects of culture from America, the Pacific Islands, South Asian countries (Thailand, Vietnam, etc.), India, and even Holland! Motorbikes are a definitive part of the culture; everyone rides one, and they are the root cause of Jakarta’s horrendous traffic jams. There is this side of the city; the traffic jams, and the 24-hour rush, and there’s also the relaxing side. Indonesia is famous for nongkrong, where you sit around, doing nothing except perhaps smoking and chatting with a friend. Good times…
